Zlatibor Lončar, Minister of Health of the Republic of Serbia, received today Spyridon-Adonis Georgiadis, Minister of Health of Greece, and together they signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of health between the two countries.

Dr Zlatibor Lončar, Minister of Health in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, met today in Brussels with Olivér Várhelyi, European Commissioner for Health and Animal Welfare to discuss a number of important topics including the improvement of cooperation between Serbia and the EU in the field of health, and, especially, specific support for Serbia on its European integration path.

BELGRADE, 4 June (Tanjug) - Zlatibor Lončar, Minister of Health, stated today that all healthcare systems, Serbian included, had had to adapt quickly to new circumstances during the Covid-19 pandemic and find a solution that would meet the needs of citizens in a time of major health crisis, while the the World Bank Serbia Country Manager, Nicola Pontara, highlighted that Serbia was the Western Balkans leader in innovation.

Dr Zlatibor Lončar, Minister of Health in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, addressed the WHO Executive Board’s 157th session in Geneva today for the first time as a member of this body.

Dr Zlatibor Lončar, Minister of Health in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, met today with Yakup Beris, UNDP Resident Representative in the Republic of Serbia and his team. They have jointly concluded that the cooperation so far has been extremely successful and constructive, especially in the areas of building capacity for the implementation of microbiological surveillance and digital health solutions.

Dr Zlatibor Lončar, Minister of Health in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, discussed today with Shuo Zhang, Senior Health Specialist, who led the World Bank delegation, the results of the "COVID-19" project, as well as the elements of the implementation of the new "Serbia Non-Communicable Diseases Prevention and Control" Project, which is financed from this international institution’s loan.

Dr Hans Kluge, World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for Europe, praised Serbia's health policy today and said that he was honoured that our country had become part of the WHO Executive Board.

At the 74th World Health Organization’s (WHO) Regional Committee’s session, which is being held from 29 to 31 October in Copenhagen, the Republic of Serbia has been elected member of the WHO Executive Board, by a majority of the 53 WHO Europe member states.

On that occasion, the Cooperation Agreement was signed until the end of 2025, which includes all the defined agreements within the existing cooperation between the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization.

The Ministry of Health of Serbia’s 2012-2024 budget rose from slightly over 8.5 billion dinars to over 31.5 billion dinars. In 2024, over 97 percent this amount was financed directly from the Republic of Serbia budget, show the Ministry’s data.
