On that occasion, Dr Siddhartha commended the Ministry of Health’s activities aimed at controlling the coronavirus epidemic in Serbia, especially highlighting the immunisation process, which, thanks to the great efforts of the health professionals, has been exceptionally well implemented and efficiently organised.
"Serbia has done an excellent job when it comes to vaccination against Covid-19, and we should thank everyone for the efforts which have been made so far, to both the health professionals and decision makers for strong leadership and commitment. Recent research by the WHO and the ECDC shows that vaccination against Covid-19 has so far saved almost half a million lives when it comes to people over the age of 60 in 33 countries in the WHO European Region. The WHO will continue to support Serbia in its efforts to save as many lives as possible with vaccination that is available to all, but also through further promotion of public health measures," highlighted Dr Siddhartha.
The Minister of Health, Dr. Zlatibor Lončar, emphasised that the arrival of Dr Siddhartha to our country is another proof that Serbia approached the immunisation process as responsibly and decisively as possible, because immunisation is the only way to bring the virus under control to defeat it.
"We are grateful to the director of the WHO for Europe, Dr Kluge, for fulfilling his promise and sending a team of immunisation experts to our country, led by Dr Siddhartha. We want to share the experiences and apply successful practice examples from other countries in Serbia, in order to further increase the coverage of vaccinated citizens of our country. The fact is that there is no other way to overcome this vicious and unpredictable virus and Dr Siddhartha’s experience will be invaluable to us to that end," highlighted Lončar.
