COVID vaccination

In accordance with the Law on Infectious Diseases and based on the fact that addressing the pandemic caused by coronavirus in a way that provides universal access to all preventive measures so as reduce the spread of the virus and to prevent the emergence of new variants, including the most effective measure such as immunization, since the very outbreak of the pandemic, protection measures have in place in the Republic of Serbia that cover also asylum canters and temporary reception canters accommodating also irregular migrants (migrants who have not expressed an intention to seek asylum in the Republic of Serbia and/or those without any documents, including personal documents).

As part of the campaign to motivate the general population to carry out mass immunization, measures have been taken to inform migrants about the importance and need for the vaccination. Based on a mass campaign that is permanently taking place in all 15 asylum canters and temporary canters in the Republic of Serbia, in the period from mid-March 2021 until now, at least one dose of available vaccine was received by 400 migrants, of whom more than 90% represent the population of irregular migrants. Due to the large fluctuation of migrants, the revaccination of irregular migrants is much smaller because they leave our country in large numbers even before the expiration of the period in which the revaccination is necessary.

Based on the abovementioned, in the Republic of Serbia, all migrants are immunized, regardless of their status, including the irregular ones, and there is no administrative obstacle to the freely expressed will of irregular migrants to be vaccinated with one of the vaccines available in our country. Also, vaccination of migrants, including irregular ones, is carried out in the canters where they are accommodated, and after the obligatory examination performed by a medical doctor and trained medical staff in the community health centres having the necessary equipment, emergency care, the so-called antishock therapy, is also provided.
