Dr. Zlatibor Loncar, Minister of Health in the Government of the Republic of Serbia, met today with the World Bank delegation led by Shuo Zhang, Senior Health Specialist, to discuss the details of the Serbia Non-Communicable Diseases Prevention and Control Project, which is financed from this international institution’s loan.
The implementation timeline of the activities planned under the Project were agreed at the meeting, particularly the details related to the procurement of new diagnostic equipment, linear accelerators and magnetic resonance imaging devices, as well as the procurement of mobile clinics that are intended for patients in rural areas of municipalities in inland Serbia.
Minister Lončar highlighted that the procurement of the said equipment and mobile clinics will significantly contribute to the further improvement and modernisation of Serbia’s health care system.
Shuo Zhang highlighted that although the World Bank cooperates with 188 countries around the world, this project was singled out as one of the best for evaluation by the Europe and Central Asia Independent Evaluation Group, which reaffirmed its importance and quality.
It was also highlighted that the new project is a continuation of the successful implementation of the Second Serbia Health Project, which was also managed by Minister Lončar. The work of the Ministry of Health in the primary health care sector and in the field of chronic non-communicable diseases was particularly commended, which is recognised as a logical continuation of the exceptionally successful cooperation between the Ministry of Health and the World Bank.
